What is Bridge Virtual Summer Camp?

The BRIDGE KIDS PROGRAMS is a program called BRIDGE Summer Camp, where more than 200 11-year-old "child ambassadors" from around the world are invited to Fukuoka in the summer and their chaperones treat the entire city of Fukuoka as a campsite and engage in dynamic intercultural exchange. In 2021, APCC will utilize its experience and network to hold a new online exchange program called BRIDGE Virtual Summer Camp as a new form of international exchange. This program consists of seven sessions for overseas child ambassadors (children around 11 years old who are scheduled to participate from 36 countries and regions that APCC has a contact point for) and FUKUOKA KIDS (4th to 6th grade elementary school students in Fukuoka selected through public applications), and they will interact through activities such as group work and cultural introductions. The program also aims for the children to understand each other and develop friendships while working together on the SDGs, a global goal. During the program, FUKUOKA KIDS will interact with overseas child ambassadors online, either from home or by gathering at the venue, depending on the purpose of each session.

Program overview

[Planned participants]
■ Children Ambassadors: Children around the age of 11 who are scheduled to participate from APCC's 47 overseas offices (36 countries/regions).
■ FUKUOKA KIDS: Open recruitment for 4th to 6th grade elementary school students living in Fukuoka Prefecture.

[Program features]
■ Exchange through activities such as group work and cultural introductions with the theme of "making friends all over the world"
■ Group work was carried out by about 4 overseas children's ambassadors, about 3 FUKUOKA KIDS, facilitator volunteers who support children's exchanges, and overseas supporters who are former children's ambassadors.
■Rather than a one-time exchange, we will foster friendships through a seven-part program
■ Utilizing the APCC network around the world, children from various countries and regions can participate
■ Through this program, children will be able to understand each other, develop friendships, and become global citizens with a heart of OMOIYARI.

The charm of volunteer facilitators

・You can grow yourself
Through training, you will learn the skills and knowledge necessary for basic facilitation, and as a facilitator of BRIDGE Virtual Summer Camp, you will support children's interactions during the actual program period. During online interactions, we will consider ways to create an atmosphere that makes it easy for each child to participate and ways to draw out ideas from the children. By supporting children, you can also lead to your own growth.

・You can experience the world through group work with people from countries and regions that you would not be able to interact with in your daily life.
The children's ambassadors are expected to come from 36 countries and regions where APCC has overseas offices. Each group will also have a former child ambassador, known as an overseas supporter, who will support the exchange. The facilitator himself will be able to enjoy international exchange while staying in Fukuoka.

・You can watch over children as they open the door to the world
For some of the participating children, this will be their first time communicating with people from a country or region other than their own. For these children, this program will be an encounter with a different culture, and it may even open the door to the world. In particular, this program will allow you to closely watch the growth of the FUKUOKA KIDS, who will also participate in face-to-face activities.
