[Update] Cyclone damage in Vanuatu

This was announced as a new update on March 16th.
An update on the cyclone damage and situation in the Republic of Vanuatu.

In the past few days, APCC local representatives in Vanuatu and
With members of Bridge Club Vanuatu, the APCC alumni organization
We have been contacted as follows, so we would like to share it with you.

From a Bridge Club member (contact point person) on Monday, March 23rd:

Greetings from Vanuatu after a week Port Vila is still devastating. A few offices have electricity and water, and many countries are piling in with aid such as tarpaulins, rice, tinned goods for people who have been affected. It will probably take us two months to recover, but the office may take about another week to fully operate again.

It's been a week since the disaster, but Port Vila is still in a terrible state. Many countries are sending supplies such as tarpaulins, rice, and canned goods to the victims. It will probably take about two months to recover, but we think the counter will be able to reopen in about another week.

From a Bridge Club member (contact point person) on Tuesday, March 24th:

BCV has not been able to meet yet but a lot of schools were severely damaged by Cyclone Pam, so they could not attend schools this week. Some homes were badly damaged. As there is a long line to wait for relief supplies such as tarpaulins, rice, tinned goods, noodles, clothes and books, we are asking everyone we know to help with donations so we can give them to our members and their families.

Now the sun is out, but some homes have no electricity or water supply, so we are trying to help by all means. But please extend our thanks to our host families. We are all alive, but just need some basic things to survive in the next few months.

BCV (Bridge Club Vanuatu) has not been able to collect yet, but most of the schools are closed as they were severely damaged by the cyclone. Some homes were severely damaged. There are long lines to get supplies, so we are asking our friends to donate to distribute to Bridge Club members and their families.

The situation is improving, but many homes still don't have electricity or running water, and we are starting to work to reach out to them.

Please convey my gratitude to my host families and all those involved who are concerned about us. Although we are currently lacking in supplies for the time being, we are all doing well.

March 24th (Tuesday) From the APCC local representative:

We have been through the storms and have come out stronger! Thank you for all your thoughts and support during this terrible time.

I contacted the Chaperon and the children concerned and they are still looking forward to coming to Japan.

The majority of houses suffered some damage. We will be short of food, but the people have been encouraged to start planting and rebuilding.

The storm has passed and we are regaining our strength. Thank you for your concern and kindness.

I have been in contact with the child ambassadors and chaperones who will be participating this year, and they are all looking forward to going to Fukuoka.

Many homes were damaged and food is scarce, but everyone is working to rebuild.
