Q

What should I do if a Junior Ambassador(JA)/Chaperon gets injured or sick? Are the costs borne by the host family?

A

First of all, please treat the JA/Chaperon in the same way as your child and members of family.
(Let the JA/Chaperon rest for a while and see how he/she feels, take the medicine he/she brought with him/her, put a band-aid on, etc.)
Even if it is necessary to visit a hospital, the JA/Chaperon is covered by "travel insurance", so the host family will not be responsible for any medical expenses.

Q

I am concerned about the religious support of the homestay program...

A

There are Junior Ambassadors who believe in various religions such as Islam and Hinduism, and their piety and enthusiasm vary depending on the individual. Depending on thier religion and beliefs, there may be things they cannot eat (forbidden foods), and they need times for prayer. However, general information does not always apply to everyone. Then please ask your the JA directly about your concerns. Even if you accidentally eat forbidden food, it will not be a life-threatening situation. Rather than being overly conscious of "it's a religious thing,'' we hope you will sit around the table and enjoy the meal together.

Q

What should I do during my homestay period?

A

The purpose of the homestay program is for Junior Ambassadors from overseas to experience the real daily life of Japanese children of around the same age. Therefore, there is no need for you to give any special treatment to them. Everything of Japanese daily life becomes an intercultural experience for the them. Please give opportunities to the Junior Ambassadors to go to the local park or school with your child. Enjoy spending times in your normal life with your Junior Ambassador!

Q

Will I be guaranteed to become a host family if I apply?

A

Host families are not available on a first-come, first-served basis.
We will carefully select host families, taking into consideration various factors such as motivation for applying and the age of the children of the main host friends. If we receive a large number of applications, you may not be able to become host family.

Q

Can I become a host friend even if I am a junior high school student?

A

Even junior high school students can become host friends (children of the homestay host).
However, Junior Ambassadors' age is around the age of 11. Then they have go to school with their host friends, they must attend elementary school and cannot attend junior high school.
Therefore, the main host friend must be an elementary school-age child who is the same age as the child ambassador and can attend elementary school together with the child ambassador. Even if you do not have an elementary school sibling, please consider becoming a host family with a chaperone (adult chaperon).

Q

Junioir Ambassadors attend school with my children (the main host friends), but will they attend the same elementary school as my children ? What is the procedure in that case?

A

Junior Ambassadors attend the same elementary school as children of around the same age as the host friends in a host family. Requests to elementary schools are made by each host family through their homeroom teacher. At that time, APCC will provide the school principal with a document "School Attendance Request Form." If your school has never hosted a Junior Ambassador or if the school is not familiar with APCC, we will explain more details. Therefore, please ask the school to contact APCC.
